Panathinaikos experienced its first loss of points in Super League’s scoreboard after a 0-0 draw against Panaitolikos in Agrinio, for the fifth match day of the Greek Championship.

The “Greens” are right in protesting for an incorrectly disallowed goal scored by Lod in the first half, as assistant referee, Lambrou, indicated wrongly that Berg was in an offside position, while he was “serving” the goal. The same assistant was “starring” in another moment with Lod, lifting up his flag incorrectly, regarding the Finn midfielder this time…

Panathinaikos created chances to score, especially in the second half of the duel without success though, for the first time in this season’s competitions, wherever it competes . On the other hand, the players of Andrea Stramaccioni did not let in any goal for the third consecutive match of the Super League!

Scoring but…

Further to the first explosive 10 minutes, played on both sides of the pitch, the hosting team was able to close all free corridors towards their goalposts waiting in the other side of the field to threaten in counterattacks. This is what they did, without being able to score a goal as they desired…

Furthermore, in the first half, Panathinaikos failed to circulate the ball properly, having problems in creating chances from the wings, while Berg was rather “cut off”. As a result Lod was the unique threat for Panaitolikos’ goalposts.

Even so, the international midfielder was once in … a shooting position, while in another one he shot at the same time against the opponent team’s nets. However, the assistant to referee Kominis had a different opinion – as it was mentioned previously – so 0-1 was never allowed!

“Stopped” by Kyriakides

In the second half, the “Shamrock” started to pressure gradually creating dangerous situations in Kyriakides’ box, particularly after the completion of one hour of game and onwards. Every time, however, the goalkeeper of Panaitolikos managed to react keeping his goalposts inviolable…

Lod was again close to score several times, from the side of Panathinaikos, until he was substituted by his coach. Villafañes was very close to … hurt his former team – two minutes after he entered the pitch – but Rodriguez stopped him.

This way and since the players from Agrinio were running out of… power, as time was passing, and being unable to threat Steele any more, the result remained unchanged till the end of the match.
