FC Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Mubarak Wakaso. The Ghanaian midfielder signed a contract with our team till summer 2019 and we welcome him into the “Shamrock’s” family.

Mubarak Wakaso was born on July 25, 1990 in Tamale, Ghana. He began his professional career with Ashanti Gold SC. In 2008 he moved to Spain as he signed a five-year contract with Elche CF. He remained there for three years playing in 58 matches, scoring one goal.
In January 2011 Wakaso was acquired by Villarreal CF. He firstly played with this Club’s second team in five games and scored once, then he continued in the first team where he appeared 17 times. In summer 2012 he agreed to a four-year contract with R.C.D. Espanyol, where he played in 26 matches and scored three goals.

The following year, this 25 year old ace moved to Rubin Kazan. After 16 matches and two goals, in August 2014, he was loaned to Celtic FC. He played just five games for the Scottish team and a year later he moved to U.D. Las Palmas on loan. He played for that Canary islands team in 20 matches scoring one goal.

Wakaso is 41 times international with the National team of Ghana which he has represented in the 2005, U-17 World Cup. He made his debut with the representative team of his country on October 13, 2012, against Malawi. He scored his first goal in a friendly match against Cape Verde on November 14, 2012. Then he joined the delegation of his country’s National team for Copa Africa 2013 competitions, in South Africa, where he had the opportunity to score four goals.
Wakaso was also among the options of National team’s coach, James Apia, for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He played in that competition for 22 minutes in the draw (2-2) against Germany.

He was also present at Copa Africa 2015, which took place in Guinea. He scored once in the semifinal of that tournament as Ghana won 3-0 against the organizers. His most recent appearance, where he scored also a goal, was against Comoros islands; Ghana won 2-0 for the World Cup 2018 qualification.
