FC Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Vangelis Economou, who signed a 2,5 year contract.

Economou was born on the 18th of July 1987 in the city of Corinth. He debuted with the local team and in 2005 he was transferred to Ionikos Nikaias. From there he we went on loan firstly to the team of Thyella Patras and then to Agios Demetrios. Two years later he returned to Nikaia where he became a starting lineup player of that second division team. He also played for the national youth football team. In 2009 Economou joined FC Kavala and thus competed in the Super League, playing during two years for the team of northern Greece. During 2011-12 season, he moved to FC Atromitos and participated in the Greek Cup final. In summer 2012 he “emigrated” to Scotland for Ross County. He stayed there for one year, before coming back to Greece, to join FCVeria for just six months. After that period he went back to the Scottish team. In 2014 he returned to Greece to play for Panionios, a team into which he remained till some days ago, before becoming a free agent player.

“I know I am coming to a very big team. The team may be experiencing some problems but this is a big Club with many fans. Coach Marinos Ouzounidis played an important role as we had a private talk. I know I am joining a great and very demanding team, according to history. My philosophy of football corresponds to the one of Panathinaikos. I am coming to help the team for a good course during the second round as the points collected till now do not reflect the real abilities Panathinaikos has”, Vangelis Economou stated, just after signing his contract.

We welcome Vangelis to Panathinaikos and we wish him all the best.
