FC Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Italian striker Federico Macheda. The player signed a three year contract with the “Greens” after completing his medical tests.
Macheda was born in Rome on the 22nd of August 1991. Being in his birthplace he entered FC Lazio’s Academy highlighting very quickly due to his talent. From then on it was impossible for him to remain in his homeland’s borders. When he was 16 Manchester United was already “gunning” for him and Sir Alex Ferguson integrated him quickly into the Red Devils’ roster. He signed a professional contract with this British Club at the age of 17 debuting one year later and … what a debut! An unforgettable one as he offered a victory to his team by scoring in the 90th minute (ManUnited – Aston Villa 3-2)! He played many games once in ManUnited and many people believed that this Italian player could be a permanent solution for the offensive line of the Club.
In winter 2011 he was loaned to FC Sampdoria in order to gain more experience. He came back six months later after having played in 14 games, though it was hard for him to find a place in Manchester United’s roster any more. He continued being loaned every season. He played for QPR in 2011-12, for Stuttgart in 2012-13 and for Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham in 2013-14.
In 2014 FC Cardiff acquired the Italian striker after spotting at Macheda’s very good previous season. He stayed there for a year and a half before moving to Nottingham Forest on loan. In December 2016 he joined the Italian Serie B team Novara Calcio. Then he signed for Panathinaikos as a free agent player.
