Michael Essien was born in Accra, Ghana. He started at Liberty and moved to Bastia when he was 18. Since then everything took its course. The "Bison's" unique talent, as this nickname was given to him due to his competing style, led him towards the peak. In 2003 he went to Lyon, he conquered titles and got the French citizenship. In 2005 Chelsea spent 24,5 million pounds to acquire him. These people were not mistaken! He gained many titles with Chelsea and played the Champions League final in 2008. He was a candidate for the «Golden Ball» award and for the title of best player during three continuous seasons, from 2006 to 2008. He played for Chelsea till 2012 and then moved on loan to Real Madrid, where he played for one season and returned back to London. In January 2014 he moved to Milan. He was transferred to Panathinaikos in summer 2015. He was called up 58 times for the National team of Ghana.
