In a match full of strong challenges, Panathinaikos and Schalke played to a goalless draw (0-0). It was the Greens’ third friendly game in Austria.
The first two good chances of the match belonged to Schalke. In the 27th minute, after a corner kick by Becker, Sanchez made a looping header, but the ball went wide. Four minutes later, Adjei headed the ball inside the box, but it hit the post.
Panathinaikos responded in the 39th minute. Bakasetas took a free kick, Schalke’s defense cleared it, and Maksimović fired a powerful shot from the penalty spot area, narrowly missing the target. The first half ended without goals.
In the second half, Panathinaikos started strongly and came close to scoring in the 52nd minute. Pellistri made a great move down the right, sent the ball into the box, Maksimović let it go for Bakasetas, who took a strong shot that narrowly missed.
The Greens continued to control the game, but despite creating good chances, they failed to score before the final whistle.
