Renown coaches with great qualifications, did an excellent job and met the expectations of the administration and the fans and led the team into big success both domestically and abroad!

Whom to remember first, without robbing someone: The first coach in the Club’s history George Kalafatis or the one at a first division level, Antonis Miyiakis? Or maybe the Yugoslavian Svetislav Glisovic, the Hungarian Josef Kinsler, the Armenian Sergio Markarian or our “buddy” Juan Ramon Rocha? All of them had impressive results in the ratio of victories per match; or Ferenc Puskas, Jacek Gmoch and Yiannis Kyrastas, who led the team in incredibly successful paths among European competitions, additionally to the local ones and Vasilis Daniil, a multi-victorious trainer in the competitions of Panathinaikos for the championship?

The first coach of the “Green” club was its founder George Kalafatis, succeeded by British John Cyril Campbell, who stayed till 1914. Kalafatis took again the reins till 1928, with an interval in 1917, when Panathinaikos cooperated with Englishman David Barns.

Further on Panathinaikos looked towards the outstanding Hungarian “doctrine” in football. In 1928 Miklos Forner was hired. He remained in the team for one season and was succeeded by Josef Kinsler. This qualified Hungarian trainer stayed in Panathinaikos’ bench during ten years, with a pause in 1934-1935, when the team was trained by his compatriot Marton Behm.

During the decade of the forties, a hard period for the country, the trainers were successively the following: Dimitriadis, Spyros Ypofantis, Themos Asderis, Antonis Miyakis and the Austrian Joseph Strandt. In 1950 Miyakis returned to the bench. Englishman Harry Gheim came to train Panathinaikos in 1951. He firstly stayed during three years and came back again from 1960 till 1963.

In 1954 Yugoslavian Svetislav Glisovic sat in the team’s bench. He was the one who implemented several tactical initiatives and discovered Mimis Domazos, who by that time was playing for Amyna Ambelokipon. He remained at the team during five years till Jan Zoldaji, a Magyar, took over. In 1959, date of the establishment of the first division the coaches have been Miyakis, Simos and Tsoutsos.

In the following table we list all coaches who “served” Panathinaikos, from 1959 till today. The 10 most victorious among them are also appearing.
