Panathinaikos returned to winning ways after beating Volos 2–1 at Leoforos in a match for the 14th round of the Super League. Coming off a defeat against AEK and a draw with AEL in the league, the Greens were desperate for all three points and managed to secure them in their final home game of 2025.
With goals from Dessers and Bakasetas and a decisive contribution from Lafont—who saved a Volos penalty to prevent the equalizer—the team coached by Rafa Benítez earned the desired three points and now turns its attention to the upcoming matches against Kavala for the Cup and PAOK for the league before the holiday break.
Panathinaikos entered the pitch with determination and quickly showed their intentions by opening the scoring just five minutes in. High pressing paid off, the ball ended up at Dessers’ feet, who moved parallel to the penalty area and unleashed a powerful, sudden shot that left Siampanis stunned, making it 1–0.
The Greens’ pressing continued, and after coming close to a second goal again through Dessers in the 20th minute, Panathinaikos found the goal they deserved in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot. Bakasetas played a fine pass into the box for Dessers, who made an excellent run and was brought down by two Volos players. The clear penalty was awarded, and Bakasetas converted calmly into the right corner for 2–0.
Panathinaikos also had chances for a third goal in the 28th and 31st minutes with Dessers, and in the 40th minute with Tete, who failed to finish from close range as Fortuna cleared heroically off the line. Instead of 3–0, however, the score became 2–1 against the run of play, without the Thessalian side having threatened at all. In first-half stoppage time (45+1’), Koba fired a low shot, the ball took a deflection, changed direction, went through several bodies and ended up in the net.
The second half began with Volos winning a penalty after a challenge by Kotsiras on Lamprou. However, in the 49th minute, Lafont reacted superbly, diving to his right to save Lamprou’s penalty, and then went on to deny a dangerous follow-up shot by Fortuna.
Panathinaikos threatened for the first time in the second half in the 77th minute with a curling shot by Djuricic that sailed over the bar, and shortly after (79’) with another long-range effort by Bakasetas. Ultimately, the final whistle found the Greens victorious in their last home match of 2025.
