The derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos at Leoforos ended in a 1-1 draw for Matchday 4 of the Stoiximan Super League. The Greens were holding on to the win thanks to the lead given by Cyril Dessers’ goal, but they conceded the equalizer during the additional time.
Panathinaikos entered the pitch with energy and determination, trying to impose their game, and they succeeded in preventing any attacking attempts from Olympiacos, who failed to threaten during the entire first 45 minutes. Christos Kontis’ Greens—on his return to the bench after winning the 2024 Cup—worked hard on the pitch and tried to create chances, but they couldn’t find a clear opportunity in the first half. In the 43rd minute, after a long kick by Dragowski and a header from Tete, Dessers shot from a difficult position off balance, sending the ball wide. The half ended goalless, with both teams producing seven attempts in total, all off target.
The second half, however, started more than ideally for the Greens. In the 48th minute, Panathinaikos pressed high, stole the ball, and Bakasetas provided a brilliant assist to Dessers, who went one-on-one with Tzolakis and finished clinically to set Leoforos alight with the 1-0! In the 58th minute, Olympiacos threatened for the first time. Podence passed to El Kaabi, who found himself in front of Dragowski but shot wide. Two minutes later, El Kaabi again found himself in a scoring position, but the Polish goalkeeper made a vital save for a corner.
The Greens came close in the 81st minute with a clever free-kick by Sánchez from a wide position, but Tzolakis turned it away for a corner. In the 90th, Toumba produced a superb tackle to deny El Kaabi when Dragowski was beaten. However, the Moroccan striker finally found the net in the 92nd minute, after an assist from Taremi, to make it 1-1.
