Panathinaikos FC announces the transferring of Giorgos Kyriakopoulos from the Italian club Monza. The 29-year-old Greek international defender has signed a four-year contract and, after a distinguished career and six years in Serie A, he joins the Greens to strengthen the team with his skills and experience.
Giorgos was born on February 5, 1996, in Patras. He started playing football at Panpatraikos, but essentially took his first steps at Thyella Patras. At the age of 16, he moved to Tripoli to join Asteras Tripolis, and a few months later, he made his debut with the professional team.
At 19, he was initially loaned to Ergotelis and then to Lamia, before returning to Tripoli a year later, more prepared to compete in the Super League. Gradually, he gained more playing time and, by the 2018–19 season, he had become a regular starter. Interest from abroad soon followed, and in September 2019, he was loaned to Italian club Sassuolo. He quickly earned a starting spot, prompting the club to make the move permanent. After 3.5 solid seasons, Bologna requested him on loan. He stayed there for half a season before moving further north in Italy to join Monza—initially on loan and then permanently in his second season. At Monza, he also became a regular starter, leaving a significant mark on the club.
He has made 8 appearances for the Greek national team.
We welcome Giorgos into Panathinaikos’ family.
