Panathinaikos was able to win in an anxious derby with few chances, getting a victory for the first time after a row of negative results, prevailing over PAOK 1-0. Robin Lod scored the winning goal by shooting in an impressive way, away from the box, for the 13th match day of Super League’s Championship.

Both teams were remarkably reserved since the kick off. This image prevailed during the whole first half, which rolled on with some strong duels especially in the midfield. Most of them without chances as the ball possession was balanced between the teams. A strong shoot by Leovac, outside the box, redirected by Vlachodimos into a corner and a “lukewarm” head by Coulibaly stopped by Brikic were the most impressive plays during the first half.

Panathinaikos entered the second period very strongly, in comparison to its opponent, showing an aggressiveness which “woke up” the fans in the stands, though this wasn’t transformed into an opportunity. Especially after the first ten minutes of the second half, the match was balanced again like it was during the first half. Obviously it seemed that a goal would be just enough to show who the winner could be. This goal was scored in the 69th minute, for Panathinaikos, as Lod rolled the ball to the axe and by a strong shoot outside the box surprised the opponent goalkeeper who was obliged to remove the ball from his nets.

In the last 20 minutes nothing changed in the course of the match as neither PAOK was able to threaten, despite a head by Athanasiadis, nor could Panathinaikos take advantage of the spaces left by its guests, as they were risking in order to create chances.

The final score remained unchangeable and Marinos Ouzounidis accompanied his debut on the bench with a victory. Panathinaikos was the winner again further to his last victory over Heraklis, on the 30th of October.
