Born and raised in the Panathinaikos Academy, with years of service as a goalkeeper for the Greens, Stefanos Kotsolis has returned home!
The career path of Stefanos Kotsolis as a footballer is inextricably linked with Panathinaikos. From a young age, he joined the club’s academy and, under the guidance of one of Greece’s top goalkeepers, Takis Oikonomopoulos, he developed his skills and earned promotion to the first team in January 1998 at the age of 19. In 2004, he became a double winner with Panathinaikos, playing in the decisive final two league matches of the season. He completed his first spell with the club in 2005.
Kotsolis returned to Panathinaikos in February 2011 and remained until the end of his playing career in the summer of 2017, at the age of 38, playing a key role in the team’s Greek Cup triumph in 2014.
He then served as sporting director of Kifisia for five years—a period during which the northern Athens club earned promotion to the Super League for the first time in its history.
As the club had stated in its announcement at the end of his playing career, “the conclusion of the current collaboration marks only a semicolon in the team’s relationship with him.” Stefanos Kotsolis is back with the club of his heart…
