It was a derby which of course can’t be considered as a highlight. Panathinaikos and ΑΕΚ drew 1-1 at the stadium of Leoforos and appointed their next meeting for the coming play offs of the championship. The two teams are going to play again, against all the other teams as well, in the mini championship which leads to the European Competitions of next season.

During the whole first half none of the teams created the slightest chance to score. The priority of both coaches Lazlo Boloni and Manolo Jimenez was to keep their team’s goalposts intact.

Panathinaikos’ players entered the second half being determined to create chances and score. Finally their goal came in the 58th minute when Velez, being in the rival box, sent the ball by a splendid shoot straight into Athanassiadis’ goalposts.

This one was the second goal of the Spanish defender wearing the green jersey, after the one scored in the match against Atromitos in Peristeri. Everyone believed that thanks to that goal the Greens would win the match, but a moment of detachment was enough for ΑΕΚ to equalize. Levi Garcia by a personal effort, in the 73rd minute, entered the box and sent the ball into Dioudis’ nets scoring the equalizer.

Nevertheless, the Shamrock could be the winner of the game if Niasse, in the 90th minute, didn’t fail to score from a close distance; AEK’s goalkeeper was there to stop the ball and thus 1-1 was the final score of the duel.

Panathinaikos missed the chance to overpass tonight’s rival in the scoreboard, remaining in the fifth position just two match days before the end of the championship.
