Panathinaikos achieved a very important victory for the 14th match day. Breaking the resistance of Atromitos, the home team and among the ones in the best shape of Super League’s Championship, the “Greens” won 0-1 thanks to a goal scored by Marcus Berg in the 45th minute.

This was the second consecutive victory for Panathinaikos, coinciding with the two first matches of Marinos Ouzounidis, who is doing a favorable start, conducting the technical staff.

The first half of the game, which was played behind closed doors, was an open one and had a quite good rhythm. Panathinaikos took the initiative and created chances, although these weren’t transformed into goals, at least in two occasions by Berg and MPoku. On the other hand, Atromitos found always the way to react against its rival’s opportunities by creating counterattacks, getting close to score at first with Papadopoulos and then with Tonso. Just one minute before the halftime the Swedish striker of the “Shamrock” availed himself of an wonderful pass by Ibarbo and opened the score by a double action.

Besides the score, this goal has changed the shape of the duel, as well; in the second half Panathinaikos let the initiative to the home team, in order to protect the score which was in its favor, trying to take advantage of the mistakes its rival would make to draw. Nevertheless Atromitos was not able to essentially threat till the end of the match. Panathinaikos found several times the spaces and the opportunities to duplicate its goals. As the “Greens” weren’t so effective to “finish” the game, the interest remained intense till the last minute of the match.

The final whistle signaled the end of the game in which Panathinaikos achieved its first away victory, after three months, remaining close to the championship’s scoreboard and waiting for this evening’s match of Olympiakos in Ioannina, which concludes this week’s match program.
