Probably in its best appearance till now, Panathinaikos was superior to Kerkyra and achieved its most wide victory of the season by 4-0 over the team of Corfu in a match held at “Ap. Nikolaidis” stadium for the 18th match day of Super League Greece championship.

In a period that has been characterized by a special lack in attacking and after scoring 4 goals, plus one more that was disallowed as offside, a ball in the post and many more chances during these 90 minutes, we can speak about an “outburst”! Even if the rival was weak and the “Greens” played without a usual striker but with 8 Greek players in their lineup.

The determination of the team and the will to attack were obvious from the very beginning. Insua had a ball to the post in the 9th minute which alerted the rivals. In the 16th minute Donis, the acting center forward, finished ideally Chatziyiovannis’ play and opened the score. In the 33rd minute he assisted Johansson to score his first goal wearing Panathinaikos’ jersey. In the mean time, Villafañez scored an incredible goal which was disallowed by the referee who saw Chatziyiovannis in an off side position, considering that he was impacting the play. 2-0 was the score by which both teams went to the pause. The “Shamrock” dominated completely during the whole first half and Tzandaris was the catalyst in the center of the pitch though Hiljemark and Lod were the “significant others” in the successful passing game. The guests were absolutely harmless offensively and played rather the role of a background actor, in that game.

In the second period few things changed as the main characteristic was the unstoppable offensive activity of Villafañez. He was leading and creating for the team, looking and finding, very often, ways for Panathinaikos to enter Yiannakopoulos’ box. This way Lod from a shooting position, in the 70th minute, achieved the third goal and became a scorer for the second match day consecutively. Altman in the 90th minute, few minutes after entering the pitch substituting Donis, scored the fourth and last goal for the “Greens”. This was the “finishing touch” . Both nice goals came after some excellent final passes by the Argentinean, who deserves by all means the title of the most valuable player of the duel. In the remarkable points of the match we have to mention the first appearance of Pashalis Staikos, as “number 6”, who substituted Tzandaris, showing his good skills.

This victory has given an important breath to Panathinaikos, who experiences some troubled days, giving again hope for a better continuation football wise.
