Panathinaikos tried hard but got stuck at a goalless draw against Viktoria Plzen in the 6th round of the Europa League League Phase. The Greens had the chance to make a big step toward qualification, did everything to secure the win, but failed to score and settled for a 0–0 draw at the OAKA. Even so, they still hold their fate in their own hands…

Panathinaikos started the match with intensity and threatened twice in the opening ten minutes: first with a fine individual effort and a dangerous cut-back by Tetê that was intercepted (9’), and then with a header by Ingason (10’) that went just over the crossbar.

Viktoria responded with two chances within a minute (17’–18’), but Ingason made a crucial intervention before Antu could finish from close range, while Memić’s long-range shot went just wide.

The Greens regained control of the match, dictated the tempo and applied pressure on the Czech side. A shot by Djuricic in the 24th minute ended up in Wiegele’s arms, while several attacking moves were stopped at the last moment by Plzen’s defense.

However, in the 32nd minute the numerical balance changed. Tetê cleverly chipped the ball past Jemelka, who brought down the Brazilian as he was breaking into space. The Czech defender received a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving his team with ten men.

Panathinaikos had a great chance to score just before halftime (45’), but Padovic’ header from close range was saved by Viktoria Plzen’s goalkeeper.

After the break, the Greens took full control of the game in search of a goal. They came close in the 57th minute with a shot by Tetê inside the box, in the 62nd minute with another attempt by Chirivella  from the edge of the area, and in the 68th minute with a curling shot by Zaroury. In all three cases, however, the ball missed the target.

Viktoria did everything they could to waste time. They sat deep, defended en masse and prevented the Greens from finding the much-desired goal. A powerful shot by Bakasetas in the 89th minute was dangerous but went just wide.

The 0–0 scoreline remained until the final whistle, and now the Greens turn their attention to domestic competitions, as their next Europa League League Phase match is scheduled for January 22, 2026, away against Ferencváros FC.
