Panathinaikos suffered their first defeat of the season, ending a 13-match unbeaten run across the league, Europe and the Greek Cup. The Greens lost 1–0 to Olympiacos in the derby at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium on matchday six, but remained top of the Stoiximan Super League.

Backed by their home support, Olympiacos tried to catch the Greens off guard. Panathinaikos, however, dealt effectively with the early pressure. The visitors gradually took control and created their first threat in the 29th minute, when Tetteh tried a backheel after a fine move between Taborda and Calabria.

The hosts nevertheless opened the scoring. In the 34th minute, following Fortounis’ free kick, the ball was not cleared from the Panathinaikos penalty area, and Retsos fired a first-time shot to put his team ahead. Panathinaikos tried to respond and pushed forward, but could not change the score before half-time.

Jacob Neestrup made a double substitution at the break, replacing Kyriakopoulos and Camara with Salah-Eddine and Kangwa. In the 62nd minute, Levi came on for Taborda. Two minutes later, Salah-Eddine threatened with a curling shot from outside the box, but Ortega made a crucial save.

The balance of numbers changed in the 65th minute, when Saliakas was shown a second yellow card and sent off for a foul on Andino. The Greens became even more attack-minded after Dessers replaced Andino in the 73rd minute. But despite their pressure and efforts right to the final whistle, they could not find a way to score.
