Panathinaikos’ European journey this season will begin in Hungary. The Greens have been drawn against Paksi FC in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, as they begin their quest to secure a place in the competition’s League Phase.

The first match will be played in Hungary on Thursday, July 23, while the return leg will take place in Athens on Thursday, July 30.

Paksi FC was founded in 1952 and is based in the city of Paks, in southern Hungary, on the banks of the Danube River, approximately 100 kilometers south of Budapest. The club plays its home matches at the Fehérvári úti Stadion, its colors are green and white, and since 2006 it has been a permanent member of Hungary’s top division.

In the season that has just concluded, Paksi FC finished third in the Hungarian championship, confirming its steady progress in recent years, highlighted by winning two Hungarian Cups in 2024 and 2025. The club follows a distinctive football philosophy, relying exclusively on Hungarian players.

The first major international milestone in the club’s history came during the 2011–12 season, when it participated for the first time in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, opening a new chapter in its development.
