This was the first time in this season´s championship that Panathinaikos achieved a victory in an away match, as the “Greens” prevailed over Larissa 1-0 thanks to a goal scored by Robin Lod, in a game held at AEL FC Arena, for the 22nd match day of the Super League Greece championship.
Marino Ouzounidis’ team entered the match with strength as Tzandaris, Kace and Lod were ruling in the middle and Chatziyiovannis and Coulibaly in the wings. All of them were pressing high and maintained the home team close to Bozovic’s box. This reality gave Panathinaikos the possibility to easily create some dangerous situations against Larissa. Before the first 20 minutes of the match being completed this excellence brought some fruits. In the 19th minute a shot by Tzandaris, from the middle, was fought and won by Christos Donis, who took a header sending the ball in the back of the opposite defense. Lod entered vertically into the box and shot toward Bozovic’s goalposts, scoring and giving a lot of confidence to his teammates. Some minutes later Donis missed from very close one more chance to score a second goal. The image of the first half didn’t change essentially. The “Shamrock’s” players were creating some chances with ease close to their rival’s box, mainly from the left with Coulibaly, without being able to score, though. On the other side the offensive line of Larissa was not active at all.
During the second half Fyntanis did quickly all the three changes in an effort to overturn the image of the game. He partially succeeded, as his footballers became more decisive in their duels. They won spaces in the middle and tried to attack Vlachodimos’ box. Nevertheless, these efforts were not transformed into a chance to score and Panathinaikos’ goalie didn’t have to intervene, in any case. In the contrary, the “Greens” were conceding some spaces in the pitch and tried to respond by counterattacks. In most of the cases there were some wrong plays before the final initiatives. In the most dangerous of them, the linesman “cut” Lod mentioning wrongly that he was in an offside position, while the “Green” player was alone next to Bozovic, into the box. The score didn’t change till the end and Panathinaikos returned to Athens having gained its first three points in an away match after 22 match days!
