FC Panathinaikos announces the loan, with a purchase option, of Azzedine Ounahi from Olympique de Marseille! The 24-year-old international Moroccan midfielder is coming to strengthen the Shamrock for the European games of the Conference League and of course in the championship battle.
Azzedine was born on April 19, 2000 in Casablanca, Morocco. He started his football journey at the academy of Raha Casablanca at the age of 10, while five years later he moved to the academy of Mohamed VI.
In 2018, he moved to France on behalf of Strasbourg, which included him in their second team. In 2020, he was loaned to Avranches, a French third division team, where he played as a starting lineup player throughout the season. In summer 2021, Ounahi’s life changed, as he signed a contract with Angers. He made a spectacular debut in Ligue 1, scoring against Lyon.
His presence in Angers brought him a call-up to join the Moroccan national team. Due to his excellent performances in 2022 World Cup with the surprising Moroccan team, as a starting lineup player in every game till the semi-finals, he was transferred to Olympique de Marseille in January 2023. In Marseille, he scored in his debut. During last season he played in the majority of Marseille’s games, reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League (experiencing the elimination at the Champions League competitions due to Panathinaikos’ excellent appearance in the double legs against the French team).
He remains an active member of the Moroccan national team, having 30 appearances and 5 goals.
We welcome Azedine into the Panathinaikos family.
